Aagri Katta Restaurant
Mr. Chandrakant Babu Bhoir, the visionary founder and CEO of Aagri Katta Restaurant, was an employee of the BMC until 2004. After a bike accident led to significant financial setbacks, he decided to pursue a dream that had been with him since his youth—opening a restaurant.
Mr. Bhoir observed a gap in the market for traditional Maharashtrian cuisine, particularly non-vegetarian dishes, and identified a strong demand for authentic, home-style food. He discussed this idea with his wife, Mrs. Hemlata Bhoir, and together they began experimenting with recipes in their own kitchen. They soon realized that the market lacked a wide variety of authentic masalas, so Mrs. Bhoir started crafting them herself at home.
After months of trial and error, they finally achieved the unique flavor they desired. With the unwavering support of their family, Mr. Bhoir was able to launch a small-scale, 16-seater dhaba-style restaurant in October 2007. The business started with just the three of them: Mrs. Bhoir in the kitchen, their son managing inventory and serving customers, and Mr. Bhoir handling the front desk. The restaurant’s distinctive taste quickly attracted a loyal customer base.
As the restaurant's popularity grew, Mr. Bhoir was invited to serve their food at Mumbai Mantralay. However, due to road widening projects, they were forced to relocate the restaurant, a process that took five years before they could return to their original location. Despite these challenges, in 2017, Mrs. Bhoir retired, having laid a strong foundation for Aagri Katta’s continued success.
Under the joint management of Mr. Bhoir and Mrs. Bhoir, the restaurant received multiple accolades, including the Best Seafood Restaurant in Thane for three consecutive years starting in 2014, as well as awards for Best Aagri Food in the district. In 2018, after winning the Cricket World Cup, cricketer Prithvi Shaw visited Aagri Katta with his friends, further elevating the restaurant’s profile.
During the 2020 lockdown, the family adapted by operating the business from home with the help of their son, Mr. Vaibhav Bhoir. They managed to supply food to hospitals and quarantine centers, and even developed new popular products like Paya soup, which was in high demand due to its nutritional benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aagri Katta became renowned for supplying Paya soup to multiple hospitals.
Today, Aagri Katta continues to thrive, offering dine-in services with both AC and non-AC sections, as well as takeaway and delivery options. Customers can order through their website or platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, Magicpin, and Thrive)
